The hamsters and hedgehogs both are amazing in their own ways and are also popular pets. But there is no similarity between the two so many people wonder whether it is a good idea to keep both pets along with each other or not. You need to understand the behavior of both pets and that is when you will know whether both of them are able to live together or not. Both are small and innocent pets but still, there are various things that you need to consider before keeping two different animals together.

In this guide, we need to understand whether the hamster and the hedge get along with each other or not so that we can take a wise decision to keep them together. A lot of things need to be considered when you need to keep the 2 different animals together because lots of things vary and also it is not so easy to find the point of commonality between the two. You also need to take care of both the animals in different ways which can be challenging sometimes for the owners.

Can Hamsters And Hedgehogs Get-Along

Can hamsters and hedgehogs get along?

You will notice that both the pets are small and not too dangerous which makes it quite easy for the owners to keep both the pets together at the same time. But when it comes to the fact that whether they get along with each other or not, then the answer is no because the hedgehogs can be quite dangerous for the hamsters because of the prickly quills that they have which can hurt the hamsters, and also this can make the stressed a lot and that is the reason that the hamsters and the hedgehogs do not get along with each other quite well. So it is not a good idea to keep them in the same habitat as it can be stressful for both of them.

Can a hamster and a hedgehog live in the same cage?

No, not at all the hamster and the hedgehog cannot live in the same cage and it is also not a good idea because of this reason you should also not even try to do something like this as we have discussed earlier it is a dangerous combination and you can even risk the life of your little hamsters.

The quills of hedgehogs are so sharp if they will prick the hamsters, it can prove fatal for them and you can lose one of the pets and that s the reason you need to make sure that you do not even try to keep them in the same cage as it is not at all a good idea.

Also, you will notice that the hamster and hedgehogs like to live alone and do not want to be with other pets because it will not only be stressful for the hamsters but also even the hedgehog will get stressed because of the presence of the other pet in their cage. So the best idea is to keep them in different cages for their better health and also to provide them with a stress-free life.

Can hamsters and hedgehogs live in the same room?

Yes, of course, the hamster and the hedgehogs can live in the same room though not the same cage as discussed earlier as they will not be in direct contact with each other, if they are living in the same room but in different cages.

You should make sure that you keep their cages quite far so that they are not able to see each other because even by seeing others they can get stressed so the best thing is to keep them as far as possible in the same room. If the hedgehog and the hamster do not have any issues and they are fine in the same room with different cages then it is OK and the owners need not worry.

But if there is a problem then you need to keep them in a separate room because one of the pets will get too stressed and that can lead to their death and that is the hamster because the hedgehog can become aggressive and can even start hissing which will stress the hamster a lot. So in such a situation, the best thing is to move them to different rooms for their well-being and healthy life.

Can hamsters be prey for the hedgehogs?

The hedgehogs eat other animals in the wild like rats, birds, and even snakes but not a hamster you never know when they are living with the hamster in the same cage they might attack them and treat them as prey, so it is better not to risk the life of the hamsters and keep them separately as you will not have any idea as to how the hedgehog will behave with the hamsters.

So the best thing is to keep them separate and it will not cause any problem for both of them. Most importantly the hamster will live safely and happily in another habitat where they will not have any sight of the hedgehog.

You never know the hedgehogs can see the hamster as prey and this will risk the life of your sweet little hamster and you can even lose them forever, so try and avoid such situations and let both the pets live in their comfort zone without any interference from one another. The owners need to take care of both of them so that there is no tension in their surroundings.

Final thoughts:

The hamster and the hedgehog are amazing pets in their own way but still, they do not get along with each other which will cause lots of issues for the owners who want to keep both of them as a pet because it is not at all a good combination. But you can keep them under the same roof but not together in the same cage because the hedgehog can harm the hamsters.

The hamster and the hedgehog are completely different species and also they do not have anything in common and also they have different requirements in order to live a healthy life.

The hamster and the hedgehog are not getting along with each other under any circumstance and that is why you need to provide them with separate habitats and care for them in a different way and that can be challenging for some of the owners because it requires lots of time and patience to cater to the needs of both the pets i.e. the hedgehog and even the hamster.
