How To Train A Hamster Not-To Bite

How to train a hamster not to bite?

In order to train a hamster not to bite you need to make sure that you are aware of the behavior of your pet and also you know how the hamster will behave when kept in some sort of situation and the steps that you need to follow in order to train your hamster are listed as below:-

1. Wear gloves

You need to make sure that when you are handling a hamster you need to wear gloves before if the hamster is not trained properly because there could be various situations because of which the hamster will have the tendency to bite and by wearing gloves you can protect yourself from getting hurt.

2. Do not pick them up for a few days

If the hamsters are biting you whenever you are touching them or picking them so the best thing is to avoid that for some days or maybe a week because for the hamsters it will take time to trust you as they will get scared whenever you will try to touch them or pick them up and in defense, they will bite you and this is their natural instinct.

3. Gain their trust

You need to make sure that until your pet hamster will not trust you there are no ways that you can get near them and that is why you need to gain their trust and make them believe the fact that you will never ever hurt them and the hamsters are safe around you. This will help them to trust you and they will not try to bite you because of this reason.

4. Do not rush

When you are training your hamster make sure that you do not rush or get angry with them. Let them do their training at their own pace and also do not force them to do anything with time they will understand you and will eventually stop biting you and that is when you need to make sure that the hamster is getting trained but it should be at their pace and not your pace.

5. Evening training time is best

As hamsters are nocturnal in nature which means that they are highly active during the evening and the night time and that is why you should train them at this time of the day. As the hamsters are active in the evening they will learn fast and even they will be able to understand their owners at this time only they will be interested in their training otherwise it will not be a good idea to train them when they are lazy or not interested.

6. Make them feel your presence

You need to make your hamster feel your presence in various ways and one such way is to speak to them from a safe distance so that they get used to you and your voice and also do not get scared of you. In this way, they will feel your presence and they will not get scared of you, and also they will not even try to bite you.

7. Make them aware of your scent

The hamsters have a good sense of smell and by that, they can recognize various living beings and even things. So you need to make them aware of your scent so that they know it’s you and you will not harm them and they can rely on you. They want to sense your body scent that will help them to bond with you well and not the artificial scent. So make sure that you make them aware of your body scent and due to this fact they will not bite you.

8. Reward your hamster

When you will reward your hamster with tasty treats they will obey you and all your commands because with the help of the rewards they feel motivated and also they will not let you down because they know if they will listen and not bite you then they will get rewards in the form of tasty treats which is why it is a good motivational way for them to prevent them from biting and also an easy way to do so.

These are some of the ways in which you can train your hamster so that they stop biting because biting is not a good way for the hamsters to behave. They need to be trained in a particular way so that they do not harm or bite anyone around them or someone who is holding them. As we know that even children love to keep the hamster as a pet so we need to make sure that the hamster is trained properly so that they do not hurt them in any way possible.

Final thoughts:

The hamster is a cute little pet that needs to be trained in a particular manner so that they can stay peacefully in this social world and also let their owners also live peacefully which is why we need to make sure that we train our hamster nicely and most importantly prevent their nature or natural instinct of biting.

The more you will understand your pet hamster the better and easier it will become for you to train your hamster and they will also start to understand you in a better way. Make sure that the hamster knows what you are trying to convey to them and do not be harsh to them be gentle, they will take their time to learn new things but eventually, they will be able to learn whatever you are trying to teach them or want them to do or make them behave in a certain way.
