Hamsters are such cute and small creatures that people get allured to adopt them. But they have naughty nature and they can run from the cages often. They can find the minute spots to run and thus when they hide somewhere or just want to explore an unusual corner of the house they are hard to find.

Where do you search for a lost hamster?

If you wish to find the lost hamster, start your search from the closest part of the cage. It can hide behind the furniture or behind the curtain. Make sure to look into the corners where there is some empty space between interiors.

Hamsters may hide in boxes that are kept in some odd corners of your house. They are pretty innovative in this way and can be within the tissue boxes. Being small in size they usually fit into any small space.

There is a chance that they can hide inside the backpacks or other bags like purses which are left for some time without being used. Also, check the shoes that are left in the room. Basically, these small creatures find it funny to get hidden in a corner where the owner would not be able to find it.How To Find A Lost Hamster

Why the hamster may get lost?

There are reasons for the hamsters to get lost. It can be threatened or feel helpless and that is why it is trying to hide.  The secure hiding spot gives it some free time where it feels safe. You may not be able to find it immediately but that does not harm it as that will make the hamster feel calm again.

How do you find a lost hamster fast?

There are some tips that can help you to find the lost hamster faster. Start with their cage. The cage often has some hiding spots, which is also necessary for the mental health of the pet. The hamster sometimes finds the farthest corner of the cage and may remain there for long.

The furniture is always a good spot to hide, so definitely check behind and under the furniture. Do not leave any space thinking that is too tiny for the creature. Hamsters themselves are tiny too and they can squeeze their body into any amount of space.

Cabinets and drawers are also the right kinds of places where the hamsters may get hidden. If you have a few empty or semi-filled cupboards in the room then they may be occupied by the little hamster. They usually are not able to open a closed cupboard or drawer. But if a part of the drawer is open then they can push themselves in and thus be there hidden.

Bookcases are the right spot for the hamsters to be hidden. When it finds that there are some empty spaces between the books and it is in the mood of playing hide and seeks with you it will get hidden there. In fact, bookcases are more feasible spots for hiding than others because people usually search mostly the places that are closer to the ground. Hamsters are pretty able to climb the furniture to reach the bookcase and then get hidden there.

The same is applied to the shelves. The hamsters can ride some furniture or household interior item to reach any shelf that it finds empty. It may just get there and hide between or behind items that are already on the shelf. This part is harder for the owner to search as mostly they just try to search the corners which are easily accessible.

Appliances that are many in any house’s kitchen room are another good spot for hamsters to hide. They may not always go to the kitchen but when they are on a spree of getting lost then they can even find the right place in the kitchen too. As there are quite a few appliances loaded in the kitchen or in the dining table, they may find it quite flexible to hide under or at the corner of some items. These places are last checked ones for lost things or pets so you may try searching here first.

There is another way of finding the hamster that is, double check the locations that you have already checked. You may not be able to understand that the hamster has shifted itself from one corner to other or from bookshelf to kitchen shelf while you are searching for it. Thus keeping the checking process continued is the way to make sure that the pet does not stay hidden.

When can you find the lost hamster more easily?

Night time is the best when you are searching for a hamster. You can find it more easily at nightly hours. This may seem confusing to you because nights are dark and the corners are even darker where you would be searching for the pet.

But remember one thing; hamsters are nocturnal creatures and they stay more active at the night. Even if you are unable to find the creature in the daytime, wait for the night. At night the sounds of the surrounding decreases and if you pay attention you will be able to easily hear the scratches or any other sound the little hamster might be making.

Also at night time, the hamster will feel hungry and it will come out of its hiding spot to get some decent food. So if you keep the food bowl and water bowls filled and keep a watch over there, you can be able to find the pet without wasting much time on the searching process.

Can I use a treat to find the lost hamster?

Treats are a good way to get hold of the lost animal. Seeds are a weakness of the hamsters and thus, your pet will be able to find its way to the bowl of seeds that will be kept on the floor of the living room. In case you want to see how the little one comes back to you, just pile some seeds on the floor of the living room or near the cage of the hamster.

Also if you are not sure where the creature may be hidden, scatter some amount of seeds on each room’s floor.  The pet is sure to make the entry and eat from there. Even if it is not possible for you to keep an eye on each pile of seeds scattered, just check the places some time of the day. Once the hamster comes out of its hiding place it will not return there within the same day.

How can I track the trail of the lost hamster?

The process of spreading some loose flour is a sure-shot way of finding the way by which the hamster has gone. The experienced owners spread or dust the front area of the cage, the entrance of each room, and the front part of the shelves where the hamsters may hide. The small paws of the creature mark the flour spread on the floor and that is how you will understand that the little creature is hidden in which corner.

Some owners also use aluminum foil to catch or get hold of the lost hamster. When you spread some loose aluminum foil on the floor the creature will run through it and the sound will make you alert of the presence of the hamster.

Hamsters are not a very calm-natured creatures and thus, they would often run from one spot to another. It is very natural that they would be seen, heard, or caught while moving from one hiding place to another.

Can my lost hamster come back to the cage?

Yes, many experienced owners claim that after taking some round of the house, the hamster comes back to its own cage, and if it finds the cage door open, it just enters. So you should always keep the cage door open for the hamsters so they can return when it wishes.

There should also be plenty of food inside the cage which will make the cage area additionally tempting for the little hamster. As these ones make a burrow their own living place when it lives in the wilderness, it continues to have the habit of moving around their shelter and coming back after some time.

Can hamsters be lost forever?

The owners often get panicked when their hamsters get out of the cage and get vanished, but this stress is not long-lasting. The creature comes back or can be seen and caught with the processes mentioned above. Do not get anxious as the pet loves its home too, and will be there after certain minutes or hours.
